Discussion about Decimus - Decimus #11
Bremar
An on-the-edge-of-your-seat experience is hard to achieve through music alone. In these modern times, our ability to be thrilled usually depends upon the size of monitor used for viewing and the content displayed upon it. Equipped with organic sound fragments and the determination to confound and mystify, Decimus obliterates that concept and dishes out graciously creative sonic vibrations worthy of being nestled into the nooks and crannies inside our eardrums. This music is surprisingly exquisite. It has become a totally fresh and completely unexpected statement to have happen within the Digitalis industry and it’s very much a welcome one. This release is truly experimental, with its unknown origins and otherworldly character, the listener does not know where it came from or where it can go next. And that’s always a good thing. Thanks to tape loops and the strategically placed subtlety of subliminal vocal treatments rendered here, the horror this album has imaginatively intended gives our aural sense a new perspective. At certain points during the listening experience, one can almost hear what sounds like a heartbeat, fluttering inside a closed jar, seething and sputtering to the cool and erratic pulse of this recording. Each side of this LP, cleverly enough, offers the relief of an acoustic oasis to dwell upon the 20 crucial minutes prior, basking in awe. Coupled with brilliant mastering and the highly unique gift of having time stand still while listening to this record should be enough to quench any natural human curiosity that has subsisted from these alien origins. Hence, grab a copy and find out -- because armed with vintage Atari synths and militant distortion, this album is ready for the future. Are you?
